Some Washi Tape Design Tips:
Do your designs repeat?
Your washi tape design will repeat on each end, so you'll want to make sure it repeats smoothly. The left edge of the design needs to perfectly match the right edge of the design to repeat.
Unless you're a designer and know how to create mixed repeats on the cutting line, your designs may not match on each end. For example, if you have a cupcake design with a cupcake pattern that repeats over and over again, if your cupcakes end halfway up the end of the washi tape template, your cupcakes will need to match in the exact same spot on the other end, otherwise you will end up with half cupcakes or mismatched cupcakes in your design. Does anyone still feel like a cupcake now? If you're not sure how to match repeats, it's usually best to leave a small space between your designs, on each end of the washi tape.
Washi Tape Design Tips:
Tip 1:
Keep things simple. If this is your first washi tape design, keep it simple. There are many possibilities and trying to do too much in one design can lead to unclear or poor results.
Tip 2:
We recommend using Photoshop to create your custom washi tape design. These programs have the ability to check things like resolution, color profiles, measurements, bleeds, and file type output, which are all necessary to print the final washi tape design.
Tip 3:
Think carefully about your design and plan using our measure and consider scale. Remember, washi tape is tiny!
Does your design have too many details to see on such a small scale?
Can you read text of that size?
Does your design fit the bleed/cut line? If not, parts of your design may be cut off.
Tip 4:
When you design your washi tape - make sure your file is CMYK. This will give you a more accurate idea of how your colors will change. Fluorescent and bright colors may appear duller due to the different colors available on our computer than printable.
Tip 5:
Are your colors too similar? Too many dark or light colors? When your design is printed, the colors may not be clearly distinguishable from each other and may be mixed. Having some contrast and difference in color will help your design stand out clearly.
