How to Decorate Your Planner with Washi Tape
You can really decorate your planner to your heart’s desire. There are no rules to where you can or cannot put the washi tape. I’ve seen people cover all of the printed numbers and words with tape or just run the tape around the page borders. Remember to experiment and have fun with it. The following are just some ideas to get you started.
Let’s get started!
Borders
Using washi tape is very easy, especially since it can be repositioned. For long wires, like these borders, I usually like to tape one end. Then, I slowly lowered the tape from the starting end to the other end, pressing lightly as I went. I also try to make sure it's always consistent. Once it was down and lined up, I pressed the tape into the paper again to make sure it was really sticking.
For this layout I put the horizontal (turquoise) tape down first because I want the vertical tape on top if there is any overlap. Then, I added vertical (floral) tape vertically on the left side, covering the polka dots. If you're using 15mm washi tape like I am, you'll have to decide whether you want to cover the top left calendar or the Monday column. I chose the latter.
You can stop here (or skip the border altogether) if you prefer a more minimalist look, but I'd like to spread the colors more across the page.

DIY Page Flags
Page flags are one of the most common stickers shapes I see for planning materials (besides the obvious circles, squares, etc.). Many great Etsy stores offer them text like this and cute graphics, even blank ones so you can write on them. While I'm going to use some of these stickers, it's good to know that you can also make your own page signs using washi tape.
To make them, just cut a rectangle from the washi tape, then a triangle* from the short end of one side. You can place them in any direction you want. Most of the page logo stickers appear to have the tip facing down but can be placed at will. I used a real patterned tape which is not suitable for writing on. I may need to use bold to make the words really readable. In this example, I used tape more to bring some colors from the left side of the planner to the right side. I placed two-page signs on the right and left to try and balance the floral tape on both pages.
