What Can Washi Tape Do?

May 26, 2022

Washi tape is a great way to add some quick embellishment to your journal pages. I use it to connect color themes together, along the side of the page and on top of each other for a very simple collage effect.

You can cut the washi tape for a neat edge or tear it off for a lovely rough-edged look. With just a strip of washi tape, you can easily add a nice pop of color to your journal pages.

I often use washi tape to quickly mark pages for easy reference. I just folded a piece of washi tape over the top of the page so that it protrudes slightly from the top of the journal.

For something more substantial, I created page tabs. The first step is to attach strips of washi tape to thick paper or cardstock.

The next step is to cut out the tabs. You can cut them out yourself using scissors, or if you plan on making quite a few, you might want to consider a cutter. I use this punch with scrapbook paper and packaging too.

You'll then have a collection of beautiful labels that go perfectly with the washi tape you've used to decorate your journal pages. I glued mine to the edge of my page. You can even write on it if you use regular washi tape.

Journal reminder cards are great to add to your journal pages. You can add a personal journal below, paste photos, or just use them as extra decoration. Just add a strip of washi tape around the edge of the card, on both sides, so that it folds open.

I appreciate having neat edges on my journal pages! To create this effect, add some thin tape to the sides of the page.

Tip: If your washi tape is really sticky, try sticking it to your pants a few times to remove some of the stickiness. This will prevent you from damaging your log pages when you remove the tape.

Next, use some pens to draw lines on the page, making sure to place the pen on top of the two pieces of washi tape. Brushes enable you to create beautiful thick lines.

Finally, carefully peel off the washi tape to reveal your lovely crisp edges. I'm using my page to take notes, but this works great for any kind of journal spread.
