Different Names of Markers in the World
If someone mentions "marker" this word to you, you must know what he or she refers to. However, do you know there are different names of a marker in different countries? And today, I am going to share them with you.
In south Korea, it is called 'sign pen, 'vivid' in New Zealand, 'texta' in Australia. In South Asia, it is called 'sketch pen' ,and 'koki' in South Africa, according to the introduction of Wikipedia. All of these names refer to the regular marker pen we often use in offices or classrooms.
The first time I got touch with these various names referring to the same marker pen, I thought that's quite awesome! I have been showing great interests in language, and these names just make me feel that the world is a big family. Every country is a family member, and each of it has its own "dialect".
The marker we often say consists of a container and a core of an absorbent material. The ink is stored in the filling. The upper part of a marker is the nib and a cap to prevent the marker from drying out. This is the basic structure of a marker. Of course, there are a lot of novel and innovative designs of it thanks to designer's open minds and creative ideas. Such as we have very cute-shape strawberry and carrot markers which can attract the young-age kid's attention for sure, and we also have the markers which are suitable for different usages and scenarios. Every innovation can broaden the existing market and bring better or even beat purchase experience for customers!
