Did You Get Fooled Today?
Time flies, and the year 2022 has already arrived in April. Today is also a special day - April Fool's Day.
April Fools' Day, also known as All Fools' Day, falls on April 1 in the Gregorian calendar, a popular folk holiday not recognized as an official holiday in any country since the 19th century. On this day people cheat each other and play tricks on each other in various ways, often at the end of the joke to expose and declared the target of the joke as "fool". The nature of the joke rarely contains real malice, but some jokes are too big and cause people's panic, resulting in a large-scale response and thus derived into rumors or urban legends, so people generally try to avoid the joke such as disaster.
The festival spread to England in the 18th century and was later brought to The United States by early British immigrants. At first, any American could send shocking news without moral or legal responsibility, and the government and the judiciary would not pursue it. Instead, praise is given to the person who makes up the most bizarre and convincing lies. This has brought a lot of chaos to society, and people are unhappy about it. Instead of being as outrageous as it used to be, people are now taking the holiday trickery for a lighthearted purpose.
Today Americans play small tricks on friends and strangers alike on the first of April. One common trick on April Fool's Day, or All Fool's Day, is pointing down to a friend's shoe and saying, your shoelace is untied. School children might tell a classmate that school has been canceled. Whatever the trick, if the innocent victim falls for the joke the prankster yells, April Fool! The cleverest April Fool joke is the one where everyone laughs, especially the person upon whom the joke is played. American humorist Mark Twain has said that the first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.
