The difference between marker pens and watercolor pens
Many novice painters cannot tell the difference between markers and watercolors. Although both of them can be colored, there is still a big difference. I will share it with you today.
The tip of the marker pen is generally flat (there are also round and pointed tips), and the tip of the watercolor pen is generally round.
However, different marker pens have different functions. Marker fine, brush and broad are three common nibs. Fine (thin) is suitable for line drawing, brush (soft tip) is flexible, soft, broad (thick tip) Generous and thick is the classic tip of the marker pen, which can be painted in a large area.
There are two types of marker pens, water-based and oil-based, and only one water-based watercolor pen.
a. Markers are divided into oil-based markers and water-based markers. Oil-based markers are mostly used for one-time quick drawing, dry quickly, and are resistant to water and drying. Although it is not soluble in water, it is soluble in alcohol. If the pen dries up, add some alcohol to the refill and use it for a while. Water-based marker pens are bright in color, dissolve in water, and can be used for a while by adding a little water to the refill after drying.
b. Watercolor pens include single-color watercolor pens, two-color watercolor pens, and multi-color watercolor pens. Single-color watercolor pens only differ in color, with 12-color, 24-color, and 36-color color numbers. The two-color watercolor pen writes in 2 colors. Multi-color watercolor pen is made of a variety of colors of refills together to make a pen, often used for beauty work painting.
Markers can stack colors, and you can express the effect you want by mixing colors. Watercolor pens cannot stack colors. Markers are easier to color than watercolor pens.
The advantages of watercolor pens are that they have enough water, rich colors and bright colors. The disadvantages are that the water is uneven, the transition is unnatural, and the two colors are not easy to reconcile together, so they are generally suitable for children's paintings. The advantages of the marker pen are that the water is uniform and the color contrast is weaker. , 2 kinds of colors can be well coordinated, you can draw architectural renderings, industrial design renderings, and POP advertising and so on.
Above are some basic differences between markers and watercolor pens. Hope they are helpful.
