How to Load a Staple Gun?

Jun 27, 2022

A stapler is a handheld machine that drives metal staples or small nails into thick paper, plastic, wood, or thick fabric. Staplers are available in manual, electric and pneumatic models to meet every need, and they are more powerful than regular desktop staplers. Before you can use the staple gun for woodworking, upholstery, or craft projects, you need to load the staples into the gun.

Locate the push rod on the rear of the gun. Aim the gun so that the area where the nails come out faces away from you. Then, look at the back of the gun, there is a small metal rectangle with 2 indents on the side and a small hook on the top or bottom. This is the release of the putter.

If you can't find it, trace to the rear area from where the staples come out of the gun, which is usually a straight line.

Push the lever in and pull it out to remove it. Place your thumb and index finger in the grooves on either side of the pusher. Then, if the hook is at the top of the rod, push the rod forward and down. If the hook is on the bottom, push the lever forward and up. With the hook unhook, pull the rod completely out of the gun and set it aside.

If pushing in one direction doesn't work, try the opposite direction before pulling it out. In most cases, you will be able to see the hook on the rod loosen when you push the rod in.

Lay the staple legs down on the rails. Take a row of staples and position them so that the legs are facing down, and the staples are on top of the rails in the chamber. Then, let the staples slide all the way to the front of the gun. If you're going to be using a lot of staples in your project, it's best to fill the room with staples, leaving only about 1⁄4 of the space.

If you don't slide the staples to the front, the staples may jam when you reinsert the pusher.

Reinsert the push rod until it locks into place. Place the end of the push rod inside the chamber without the release mechanism. Straighten the rod and push it into the chamber, hooking the back of the rod in place on the top or bottom.

With some staplers, you may feel a little nervous when pushing the lever. This comes from the spring on the rod touching the stapler. Keep pushing the lever until you can hook it into place.

Test the nail gun on a piece of paper or wood. To ensure proper staple loading, fold a sheet of paper in half or use a piece of scrap wood or fabric. Place it under or inside the stapler and pull the trigger to release the staples. Make sure that the staples fire smoothly and there are no paper jams.

Try testing the stapler on the type of material you will be using for your project.
