Decorations Using Folded Paper and Staples
Decorating with folding paper and staples is a fun and thrifty way to prepare for any type of party.
When searching for decorations using folding paper and staples, the first question you may ask is whether the items qualify as origami. Purists would say no, because origami doesn't usually use tape, glue, or staples to help strengthen projects. However, these holiday projects are fun and easy to make. They are also a great way to practice making clear folds and reading instructions carefully. So, even though they're not technically origami, they're still worth your time!
Classic Paper Chains
The most obvious way to create decorations using folding paper and staples is to make beautiful paper chains. This simple project is one you may remember doing as a kid looking for a way to count down to Christmas.
Supplies:
1. Origami paper, scrapbooking paper, or other decorative paper
2. Scissors or paper trimmer
3. Staples
4. Ruler
Instructions:
1. Cut the paper into strips about ½" wide and 5" long.
2. Fold the ends of one strap together to form a circle. Staples closed.
3. Pass one end of the second strip through the first circle and staple closed.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 as needed until the chain reaches the desired length.
Modern Paper Ornaments
These modern paper ornaments bring a contemporary flair to any party. By varying the number of strips used and the placement of the staples, you can give these simple ornaments several different looks.
Supplies:
1. Double-sided paper or cardstock in assorted colors
2. Scissors or paper trimmer
3. Stapler
4. Ruler
5. Thread for hanging
Instructions:
1. Cut the paper into seven strips, one inch wide and about 11 inches long.
2. Choose a color combination for your decorations. Alternating two or three colors usually looks best.
3. Cut center strips into six-inch lengths.
4. Cut outer strips to measure 7", 9" and 11". There should be two pieces per layer of your ornament, one on each side.
5. Lay the tops of all strips flush together and staple.
6. Align the bottom edges so they are flush, and staple.
7. Use thread to hang your decorations where you want.
